Ultrasound is a safe, noninvasive imaging technique that uses sound waves to produce real-time images of your body’s organs, tissues, and blood flow. At Advanced Health Associates, our experienced team provides high-quality ultrasound services for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Call today or request an appointment online to learn more about our ultrasound imaging services.
Ultrasound, also called sonography, uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of structures inside the body. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound does not use radiation, making it safe for patients of all ages, including pregnant women. It is commonly used to examine the abdomen, heart, blood vessels, joints, and soft tissues.
Ultrasound may be recommended for patients who need evaluation of:
Abdominal organs such as liver, kidneys, or gallbladder
Heart function (echocardiography)
Blood flow and vascular health
Joints, tendons, and muscles
Pregnancy and fetal health
Soft tissue masses or abnormalities
Guiding needle placement for biopsies or injections
Ultrasound provides immediate visual information to assist in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
During the procedure:
A small handheld device called a transducer is placed on the skin over the area being examined
A gel is applied to improve sound wave transmission
The transducer sends sound waves into the body and records the echoes to produce images
Images are displayed on a monitor in real time, allowing the provider to assess structures and function
Most ultrasound exams are painless, quick, and require no special preparation, though some areas may require fasting or a full bladder.
Noninvasive and safe, with no radiation exposure
Real-time imaging of organs, tissues, and blood flow
Helps guide treatment decisions and procedures
Can detect abnormalities early for timely intervention
Quick and comfortable, often completed in under an hour
